Granny Smith Apple Crisp

by madaise on Sep 15, 2008

This recipe is on the Momma Muse site - it’s one of my fall favorites (ok, fall, winter, early spring anytime I can get tart, crispy ). This crisp recipe an easy recipe to tweak, so don’t feel like you have follow these directions exactly.. it’s more of a guideline. Play with it, experiment (and take notes so you know what you like and don’t). For example, sometimes I don’t use any white sugar at all… or I may double the amount of “crisp”, because I love that part! Other times, I chunk my apples instead of slicing them. Anyway, have fun and enjoy! And don’t forget a scoop of and homemade whipped cream!

Ingredients:

Topping:
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. flour
3/4 c. oats (I use quick oats, but may be used instead)
butter

Filling:
4-6 (or other crisp, )
1/4 c. brown sugar

Directions:

- Peel, core and into thin pieces.
- In a bowl, add cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar to sliced apples and mix well.
- Set aside.
- Mix flour, granulated sugar, and oats together.
- Add 3 tablespoons butter.
- Mash well with fork creating clumps and crumbs.
- Grease bottom of cooking pan. I use a 9? round pan.
- Pour mixture into pan.
- Top with .

Bake in oven at 375 degrees for about 30 minutes or until apples are tender. Crumb top will turn golden brown.

1/4 c. melted butter

- Mix together well and press into a 9″ ,  pressing up the sides.
- Fill with favorite ice cream.  My favorite is .

Let ice cream sit on counter while you make the crust.  Just enough to soften slightly to make it easier to remove from carton.  Spoon into and place in for a couple hours until the ice cream settles into .
